The Zen Raku Kiln is constructed of vacuum formed fiber insulation that
is rigid and durable without any seams. Not to be confused with the more
commonly known felt blanket that is more fragile, this vacuum-formed
insulation is custom built for Zen Pottery Equipment. The kiln has
amazing insulating properties and yet it is very lightweight. The exterior of the kiln is constructed of steel. The inside dimensions are 16" x 24". It has a top exhaust port and a side view port. The burner is a venturi, accompanied by a brass needle valve, automatic safety shutoff equipment, and burner stand for stability. FIRING Firing times for raku are very fast. First firing takes 15-40 minutes. This is the longest time because the initial time to heat up the brick stand, shelf, posts, etc. consecutive firings take 10-20 minutes. In classroom sessions the time factor is a problem with this raku kiln many pieces can be fired in a short period. GAS SAVINGS: encountered are obvious. A 100-lb. bottle of propane supplies many hours of firing (approximately 50 loads of pots). With energy prices at a premium this feature is so important. PORTABILITY: The kiln body that includes the fiber liner and expanded metal shell weighs only 27 pounds. It can be taken most anywhere. Set-up takes minutes and then you're ready to fire. Zen Raku Kiln includes: kiln body, burner/stand, valve, automatic safety shut-off valve, thermocouple and pilot, hose, gauge, regulator/POL, instruction manual. |
